Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley intends to stop her presidential campaign following a string of Super Tuesday setbacks.
Former President Donald Trump is now the only major Republican contender left standing, all but ensuring him the party’s nomination and a rematch with President Joe Biden in November.
Haley is slated to speak to the press in Charleston, South Carolina, at 10:00 a.m., although she is not expected to throw her support behind former President Donald Trump.
Nikki Haley was one of the first to announce her 2024 candidacy, and she is now the last to withdraw after more than a year of campaigning.
“America is not past our prime — it’s just that our politicians are past theirs,” Haley told a modest gathering in Charleston, South Carolina, at her campaign’s launch. “We won’t win the 21st century if we keep trusting politicians from the 20th century.”
That theme remained central to her message during the primary, with Haley often telling supporters at rallies that she was running against Trump because the country required a “new generational leader.”
It turns out that leader won’t be Nikki Haley. At least for the foreseeable future.
Despite her well-known name and extensive political experience, which includes two stints as governor of South Carolina and service as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations during Trump’s presidency, Haley began the election as a relative unknown.
She avoided attacking Donald Trump at first, but as billionaire funders sought an anti-Trump rival to emerge in the Republican primary, Haley grew more vocal and drew more funding for her fledgling campaign.
As Super Tuesday loomed and she became the last Trump alternative standing, she positioned herself as someone who can make the GOP more focused on issues than the politics of personality.
“The Republican Party that I’m seeing happen is one that isn’t focused on fiscal discipline, is one that isn’t focused on national security, and is one that’s becoming more about one man instead of about a party” Haley told reporters in Utah days before Super Tuesday.
In the crucial Super Tuesday election slate, Trump won the North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Maine, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, and California primaries. Haley was declared the winner in one tiny state — Vermont.
“They call it Super Tuesday for a reason. This is a big one,” Trump said in a victory speech at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. “There’s never been anything so conclusive.”

Trump made no mention of Haley in his 20-minute-long victory speech.
