Left-Wing Journalist: USAID is Just the Tip of the Censorship Industrial Complex

Matt Taibbi, a well-respected journalist who states that he has “voted Democrat his whole life,” laid bare the “censorship-industrial complex” in a statement before the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday.

Taibbi argues that the dismantling of the consensus-building closed information loop requires much more than the surgical shuttering of USAID and the dissolution of its government slush fund for radical “non-governmental organizations” — it requires a massive overhaul of state-media relations.

Taibbi’s interview can be watched below.

The full transcript of his warning to Americans follows:

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

Two years ago, when Michael and I first testified before your Weaponization of Government Subcommittee, Democratic members called us “so-called journalists,” suggested we were bought-off “scribes,” and questioned our ethics and loyalties. When we tried to answer, we were told to shut up, take off our tinfoil hats, and remember two things: one, there is no digital censorship, two, if there is digital censorship, it’s for our own good.

I was shocked. I thought the whole thing had to be a mistake. No way the party I gave votes to all my life was now pro-censorship. Then last year I listened to John Kerry, whom I voted for, talk to the World Economic Forum. Speaking about disinformation, he said “our First Amendment stands as a major block” to our ability to “hammer it out of existence.”

He complained that “it’s really hard to govern” because “people self-select where they go for their news,” which makes it “much harder to build consensus…”

I defended Kerry when people said he “looks French,” but Marie Antoinette would have been embarrassed by this speech. He was essentially complaining that the peasants are “self-selecting” their own media. What’s next, letting them make up their own minds?

“Building consensus” may be a politician’s job, but it’s not mine as a citizen or as a journalist. In fact, making it hard to govern is exactly the media’s job. The failure to understand this is why we have a censorship problem.

This is an Alamo moment for the First Amendment. Most of America’s closest allies have already adopted draconian speech laws. We’re surrounded. The EU’s new Digital Services Act is the most comprehensive censorship law ever instituted in a democratic society.

Ranking member Raskin, you don’t have to go as far as Russia or China to find people jailed for speech. Our allies in England now have an Online Safety Act that empowers the government to jail people for nebulous offenses like “false communication” or causing “psychological harm.” Germany, France, Australia, Canada, and other nations have implemented similar ideas.

These laws are totally incompatible with our system. Our own citizens have been arrested in some of these countries, but our government hasn’t stood up for them. Why? Because many of our bureaucrats believe in these laws.

Take USAID. Many Americans are in an uproar now because they learned about over $400 million going to an organization called Internews, whose chief Jeanne Bourgault boasted to Congress about training “hundreds of thousands of people” in journalism. Her views are almost identical to Kerry’s.

She gave a talk about “building trust and combatting misinformation” in India during the pandemic. She said that after months of a “really beautifully unified Covid-19 message,” vaccine enthusiasm rose to 87%, but when “mixed information on vaccine efficacy” got out, hesitancy ensued.

We’re paying this person to train journalists, and she doesn’t know the press doesn’t exist to promote “unity” or political goals like vaccine enthusiasm. That’s propaganda, not journalism.

Bourgault also once said that to fight “bad content,” we need to “work really hard on exclusion lists or inclusion lists” and “really try to focus our ad dollars” toward “the good news.”

Again, if you don’t know the fastest way to erode “trust” in media is by having government sponsor “exclusion lists,” you shouldn’t be getting a dollar in taxpayer money, let alone $476 million. And USAID is just a tiny piece of a censorship machine Michael and I saw across a long list of agencies. Collectively they’ve bought up every part of the news production line: sources, think-tanks, research, “fact-checking,” “anti-disinformation,” commercial media scoring, and when all else fails, censorship.

It’s a giant closed messaging loop, whose purpose is to transform the free press into a consensus machine. There’s no way to remove the rot surgically. The whole mechanism has to go.

Is there “right-wing misinformation”? Hell yes. It exists in every direction. But I grew up a Democrat and don’t remember being afraid of it. At the time, we didn’t need censorship because we figured we had the better argument.

Obviously, some of you lack that same confidence. You took billions from taxpayers and blew it on programs whose entire purpose was to tell them they’re wrong about things they can see with their own eyes.

You sold us out, and until these “rather tiresome” questions are answered, this problem is not fixed. Thank you.

CNN Panelists’ Heads Explode When Scott Jennings Schools Them on Trump’s Trade War

CNN Panelists’ Heads Explode When Scott Jennings Schools Them on Trump’s Trade War

A CNN panel got heated Monday after Republican strategist Scott Jennings explained how President Donald Trump used the threat of tariffs to make deals with Mexico and Canada over border security and fentanyl.

Trump signed proclamations to levy 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada Saturday to address border security and fentanyl before reaching deals with both countries to delay the tariff for 30 days. Jennings pointed out to CNN analyst Bakari Sellers and Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell that the tariffs were not levied.

“No tariffs were levied. None were levied. Zero,” Jennings said, with Sellers replying, “But it’s the uncertainty and the chaos.”

“It’s one day!” Jennings shot back, with Rampell claiming, “Trump is trying to repackage the status quo as a victory. That’s what the leaders of these foreign countries are learning. You don’t actually have to give Trump anything.”

Mexico agreed to deploy 10,000 troops to help prevent illegal immigration in order to secure a 30-day pause in the tariffs. Almost 22,000 pounds of fentanyl were seized at the U.S. border in fiscal year 2024 with another 4,537 pounds being seized in fiscal year 2025 to date, according to statistics released by United States Customs and Border Protection, most on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Drug overdoses killed 105,007 Americans in 2023, down from 107,941 in 2022, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) seized over 55 million fentanyl pills in 2023 alone, CBS News reported.

China is a source for precursors to fentanyl, but did not reach an agreement before a 10% tariff kicked in.

“You have to let him announce victory on TV. Second of all, it’s not actually back to the status quo. It is worse than the status quo. As Richard points out, we have tarnished our relationships with our allies, whose help we need to rein in China, which I know you care about,” Rampell said. “Beyond that, think about the additional uncertainty that’s being added to the business environment right now. If you are a company and you don’t know if tariffs are coming or they’re not coming, you don’t know if your input costs are going to go up or they‘re not going to go up, why would you invest? Why would you invest in oil pipelines, for example, to Canada? I know you really care about the Keystone pipeline, for example.”

“You mean the one that Biden killed?” Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York shot back, with Jennings adding, “Yeah, that one.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to spend $1.3 billion to secure the U.S.-Canada border, including $200 million to combat fentanyl and the appointment of a fentanyl czar in exchange for a 30-day pause on the 25% tariff.

“We have — we have a deal,” Jennings said, with Rampell claiming, “We have a 30-day deal for nothing.”

“You guys — you guys write your talking points 12 hours ago. It‘s 10:00. Look what happened in the interim period,” Jennings responded.

Trudeau Caves To Trump Tariffs, Pledges To Secure Canadian Border

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to crack down on border security Monday in exchange for a pause on President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Trudeau promised to invest $1.3 billion in shoring up Canada’s border and appoint a “Fentanyl Czar” to oversee a $200 million effort against the drug in exchange for a pause on Trump’s 25% tariff on Canadian goods enacted Saturday, the PM announced on X. Canada’s 25% retaliatory tariff was also postponed as the two leaders pledged co-operation to secure their mutual border.

I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl,” Trudeau said on X. “Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.”

Canada will also designate cartels as terrorist organizations, while creating a joint U.S.-Canada Strike Force to combat “organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering,” Trudeau said on X.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also caved to Trump Monday, promising to deploy 10,000 of her country’s National Guard soldiers to the southern border in exchange for a 30-day pause on the tariffs.

“As President, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of ALL Americans, and I am doing just that,” Trump said on Truth Social Monday. “I am very pleased with this initial outcome, and the Tariffs announced on Saturday will be paused for a 30-day period to see whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured. FAIRNESS FOR ALL!”

In addition to Canada and Mexico, Trump also slapped a 10% tariff on Chinese goods, citing their role in the fentanyl crisis. They, too, have reportedly begun talks with Trump to stave off the import tax.

Trudeau’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Tulsi Gabbard Gets Stunning Endorsement of U.S. Senator, Dramatically Increasing Odds Of Confirmation

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine announced Monday that she will back President Donald Trump’s nominee for Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Tulsi Gabbard.

“After careful consideration of her nomination, I have decided to support Tulsi Gabbard for the role of Director of National Intelligence,” Collins said in a statement. “As one of the primary architects of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, which created this coordinating position, I fully appreciate the vital role the DNI plays in overseeing our intelligence community.”

Collins emphasized a shared perspective with Gabbard regarding the scope of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

“The ODNI has expanded well beyond its original mandate, and Ms. Gabbard shares my commitment to scaling it back to its intended scope,” Collins noted.

She also addressed concerns about Gabbard’s stance on government surveillance and whistleblowers, particularly her views on Edward Snowden.

“During our conversations in my office, her testimony at both the open and closed hearings, and her responses to my questions, Ms. Gabbard directly addressed my concerns about her position on Snowden. I look forward to working with her to enhance our national security,” Collins said.

As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Collins will play a key role in the confirmation process. Her decision is particularly significant, as she previously opposed Trump’s Secretary of Defense nominee, Pete Hegseth, and was considered a potential swing vote on Gabbard’s confirmation.

Collins had initially raised concerns over Gabbard’s opposition to Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), a critical surveillance tool. Gabbard was also pressed during her hearing over past remarks in which she described whistleblowers as “brave” and declined to label NSA contractor Edward Snowden a traitor.

Speaking to reporters, Collins reaffirmed her support, stating: “After thoroughly reviewing her record, engaging in direct discussions, and listening to her testimony, I have concluded that I will vote in favor of her nomination. She has demonstrated a firm commitment to strengthening national security.”

Collins added that she was “satisfied” with Gabbard’s explanations regarding Snowden.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford also confirmed his support for Gabbard’s nomination, according to CNN. Lankford, who sits on the Intelligence Committee, specifically questioned Gabbard about Snowden during her confirmation hearing.

With Democrats expected to unanimously oppose Gabbard’s confirmation, her path to securing the position hinges on full Republican backing. As of now, Indiana Sen. Todd Young remains the only Republican on the committee who has yet to declare his stance.

Senator Blows the Whistle on USAID Threats After Elon Musk Exposed Its Corruption

Republican Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst appeared Monday on Newsmax to say that members of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have obstructed and even threatened her efforts to oversee how it distributes money.

During an appearance on “The Record with Greta Van Susteren,” Ernst talked about her past problems with USAID and complained about a lack of transparency in how its funds are distributed. Funds, she said, often do not go toward their initially intended purposes. This alleged redirection of funds prompted Ernst to question USAID about its operational practices, a move she said was met with resistance and even threats.

“We do know that there are good programs that have existed out there that have benefited the stability of many regions around the world, which, in turn, benefits the United States of America. But unfortunately, we have seen those at the top again that have really tried to stop members of Congress from understanding how our taxpayer dollars are flowing through the agency,” Ernst said.

The senator said her concerns escalated to the point where she, alongside Republican Texas Rep. Mike McCaul, initiated a formal investigation into USAID’s activities.

“We know in the example of Ukraine — and this is what I was very focused on — is the humanitarian aid wasn’t getting distributed to humanitarian aid contractors. Instead, it was being sent to the United Nations, where we have absolutely no idea where that money is going from that point forward. So we tried to call the question on USAID, and, again, they threatened us, they stonewalled us, until I was able to join forces with Congressman Mike McCaul and announce a formal investigation of the agency,” Ernst said. “And then, even they slow walked providing any data to us.”

Ernst also discussed what she said were the geopolitical implications of neglecting foreign aid, specifically in regions like Africa.

“Scrutinizing the dollars that are flowing through that agency is very important, because, yes, I would rather see immunizations go to children in Africa. I would rather see us feeding impoverished nations. But we need to know that those dollars are doing it and not going to fund terrorist organizations, not going to support a gender ideology in certain regions. We have to know that it’s going for a specific goal that is approved by Congress and, unfortunately, USAID has abused this system,” Ernst said.

President Donald Trump and Department of Government Efficiency Chair Elon Musk initiated the dismantling of  USAID, with plans to merge its functions into the State Department. Musk said in an early Monday X Spaces discussion that he and Trump decided to close USAID. The Trump administration directed the agency’s staff to telecommute, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stepping in as the acting director and criticizing the agency’s operations as akin to a “global charity.”

In response to this move to shut down USAID, Democratic lawmakers are contemplating using their minority status to obstruct Trump’s agenda. They said they plan to leverage their votes on government funding and delay confirmations for Trump’s nominees, as revealed in several press conferences on Monday.

“We are pursuing every action that we think we can do,” Democratic Washington Sen. Patty Murray said during a press conference Monday afternoon. “But I will tell you this: we are here to pull the fire alarm. We are pulling the fire alarm.”

Trump, during a news conference Monday in the Oval Office, said the USAID merger with the State Department should have been done a long time ago.

“[USAID] went crazy during the Biden administration,” Trump said. “They went totally crazy [with] what they were doing and the money they were giving to people that shouldn’t be getting [it].”

Former FBI Director Sends Memo to Agents Telling Them How to Resist ‘Evil’ Trump

Former FBI Director James Comey sent a message to agents within the FBI and Department of Justice Monday telling them to simply “sleep, love [and] laugh” to resist the “evil” in President Donald Trump’s administration.

Comey, who Trump fired during his first term in May 2017, wrote in a statement that federal law enforcement cannot allow the “darkness of bad people” to strip them of the joy that comes with public service.

“Fight for the rule of law–to protect your country and to keep your job,” Comey said. “Don’t let the darkness of bad people steal the joy of public service. Sleep, love, laugh, and exercise because our country needs you over the long haul. Know that these people–some evil, most just followers too weak to stand up–will fade, but the need for your work will remain. Thank you for being light in the darkness.”

A message for my former colleagues at the FBI, DOJ, and US Attorney’s offices around the country.

James Comey (@jamescomey.bsky.social) 2025-02-01T15:51:22.602Z

Comey’s firing came under the recommendation of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, whose office stated that “the FBI’s reputation and credibility [had] suffered substantial damage.” In 2019, the Justice Department’s inspector general stated in a report that Comey violated bureau policy by writing in “Secret” or “Confidential” information in four memos he wrote between Jan. 6, 2017, and April 11, 2017, following his conversations with Trump.

The former FBI director leaked some of his memos to his close personal friend, David Richman, with instructions to provide the information to The New York Times. He testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee in June 2017 that he directed Richman to share the information in order to trigger the appointment of a special counsel to oversee an investigation into the now-debunked allegations that Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with the Russian government to influence the election.

The Justice Department declined to prosecute Comey for the leak of the memos.

Comey urged FBI agents in 2016 not to prosecute former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton during their investigation on whether she mishandled classified information on her private email server while she served as secretary of State during former President Barack Obama’s administration. The agency later concluded that while the use of the private server increased the risk of compromising classified information, they found no evidence “of systemic, deliberate mishandling of classified information.”

Kristi Noem Fires Back at NBC Host Who Spreads Fear About Illegal Migrant Deportations

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem turned the tables on corporate media in an exchange with NBC’s Kristen Welker Sunday, slamming outlets for wrongly perpetuating a “fear” of deportation among legal immigrants.

Since his inauguration, President Donald Trump has followed through on his campaign vow to shut down the southern border and lead a mass deportation of criminal illegal migrants amid a deadly fentanyl surge, signing a slew of executive orders addressing the issue on day one. On “Meet the Press,” Welker asked the DHS secretary if legal migrants should be worried about potentially being “wrongfully detained,” stating she had talked to some people who have “expressed concerns” and are carrying their documents with them.

“I would say that if I’ve heard that expressed by people that are legal citizens of the United States, it’s because the media has perpetuated that fear. The media has said that that’s a possibility,” Noem said. “There’s nothing from this administration, from President Trump or from any of the law enforcement individuals in these communities that has said that they need to walk around and be concerned about that at all.”

Just six days into the Trump administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents announced their largest arrest day, with 956 arrests on Jan. 26 — significantly outpacing the Biden-Harris administration, which had an estimated average of 310 daily arrests in fiscal year 2024.

Noem went on to state that not only were Americans supportive of the Trump administration’s deportation plan, but she also added that she’s seen people thank agents for their service.

“The citizens of the United States are confident that finally, after four long years of having a president in the White House that ignored federal law and endangered their communities, that there’s a different man in charge now. There’s a man in charge who loves this country, is going to help make their communities safer,” Noem added. “These citizens that live here are thrilled.”

“In fact, when I was in New York City earlier this week and in several cities since then, the people walking by us on the streets were thanking our officers,” Noem continued. “They were thanking these investigators and those that were taking these dangerous criminals out for being there, for making sure that they could walk their kids to school with a new confidence that they could get there safely and that they could do business and have their community back.”

Prior to heading to the polls in November, voters had consistently polled that immigration was one of their top concerns amid record high illegal migrant encounters during the Biden-Harris administration.

Meanwhile, public support for deporting illegal immigrants has increased in recent years.

In September 2024 a Scripps News/Ipsos poll showed that a policy of mass deportations had 54% of support. A recent poll conducted by Axios/Ipsos shows that 66% of Americans support “deporting immigrants who are in the country illegally,” with 93% of Republicans, 43% of Democrats and 67% of Independents in favor.

Mexico’s President Caves to President Trump’s Demands After Brief ‘Mexican Standoff’

Mexico is immediately deploying thousands of troops to the U.S. southern border in response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs against the country’s imports.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Monday announced she is immediately deploying 10,000 National Guard soldiers to the southern border to help mitigate the flow of drugs and illegal immigration through the U.S.-Mexico border. In exchange, the Trump administration will pause its 25% tariff on Mexican imports for one month and work to quell the flow of arms south of the border.

Mexico’s sudden willingness to meet Trump’s demands coincides with an illicit fentanyl epidemic that has rocked the U.S., with over 21,000 pounds of the drug being seized at the southern border during the final year of the Biden administration, according to Customs and Border Protection data. The country has also served as a major conduit for millions of migrants to illegally traverse into the U.S., and more recently allowed a record-setting number of migrant encounters to take place with Border Patrol agents.

“We had a good conversation with President Trump with great respect for our relationship and sovereignty; we reached a series of agreements,” Sheinbaum stated on social media. “1. Mexico will immediately reinforce the northern border with 10,000 members of the National Guard to prevent drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States, particularly fentanyl.”

“2. The United States is committed to working to prevent the trafficking of high-powered weapons to Mexico,” she continued. “3. Our teams will begin working today on two fronts: security and trade.”

The announcement followed confirmation by the White House Friday that both Mexican and Canadian imports would be hit with a 25% tariff beginning Feb. 1, until both countries do more to stop illegal immigration and illicit drugs from entering the U.S. While its activity remains far below its southern counterpart, unlawful crossings at the northern border also spiked over 1,000% under the Biden administration.

The administration is also imposing a 10% tariff on Chinese goods for the Communist government’s role in allowing fentanyl largely made from precursor chemicals from Chinese companies to be trafficked to drug cartels and then piped into the country. Beijing is already preparing to meet at the negotiating table and is reportedly looking to revive a 2020 proposal that would require them to increase purchases of American goods by roughly $200 billion.

The number of Americans dying from fentanyl, which is a synthetic opioid, has increased substantially since 1999, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Roughly 108,000 people died from a drug overdose in 2022, with around 82,000 of those deaths involving opioids.

Just one kilogram of fentanyl can kill up to half a million people, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

When reached for comment by the Daily Caller News Foundation, a spokesperson pointed to Trump’s post on social media confirming the deal.

“I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico,” the president posted on Truth Social. “It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States.”

“These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country,” he continued. “We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico.”

Trump’s MAGA Agenda is Full Speed Ahead — And the Democratic Party is Spiraling

Fresh off a historic November loss and plunged into an identity crisis, the Democratic Party now finds itself struggling to cobble together a plan to oppose President Donald Trump’s sweeping agenda.

Trump’s win in both the Electoral College and the popular vote, Democrats have split over the reasons behind their loss with voters. In a recent report, The New York Times revealed that after more than 50 interviews with Democrats, the party is divided on how to mount a successful defense to Trump’s policies, and still doesn’t know what its platform should actually be about.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) members gathered Saturday to finalize their selection of the new DNC chair, choosing Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin. In an interview with the NYT after his win, Martin stated that the issue wasn’t the policies themselves but rather a “messaging” and “brand problem.”

“The policies that we support and the message that we have is not wrong,” Martin said. “It is a messaging problem and a brand problem. Those voters are not connecting our policies with their lives.”

Martin, who has served as DFL chairman for several terms, said after his win that he would conduct a post-election review, focusing mainly on tactics and messaging. While he did not define the parameters of the review, the one issue Martin will avoid is questioning whether Biden should have run for re-election, according to the NYT.

Martin’s sentiments mirror those of Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who, in a Jan. 5 NBC interview, said that while his party had some issues to address ahead of the upcoming election, voters were unaware of how much the party had done and cared for them.

“But all too often we talked about the mechanics of the legislation and the details of the legislation and we really didn’t show the kind of empathy and concern to average or show enough of it to average working families who didn’t realize how much we had done and how much we care for them,” Schumer said.

While many Democrats are urging that widespread opposition be launched against the entirety of Trump’s agenda, the Senate minority leader has diverged from such an approach, telling the NYT that “we’re not going to go after every single issue.” Half a dozen Democratic governors have already pressured Schumer to be more aggressive in challenging the White House.

Despite the confusion over who or what to blame, Americans have consistently made clear that they’re on the other side of key Democratic policy priorities and were largely unhappy with the Biden administration. Heading into the polls, voters held chief concerns over the administration’s unbridled illegal immigration, a stagnant economy and rampant inflation, all of which plagued the Biden-Harris administration.

A March 2024 survey by The Harris Poll for Harvard University’s Center for American Political Studies (CAPS) found 36% of respondents ranked immigration as their top concern, with 33% listing inflation and the cost of living. In the same month, another survey by the Immigration Hub and Global Strategy Group found that even a majority of Democratic voters had become concerned with the Biden administration’s border crisis, with nearly 43% of voters saying immigration was among their top issues.

While Biden attempted to shift blame for the border crisis onto Trump in 2024, Democrats also tried to downplay the economic concerns many Americans had under his administration. Biden told CNN in May 2024 that the data about his economy had been “wrong all along” and claimed that people were “personally in good shape,” despite inflation peaking at 9.1% in June 2022 and impacting both businesses and consumers.

Post-election polls show 50% of voters believe America’s best days are ahead, with 44% saying they think Trump will bring down food and grocery prices and 57% supporting his program to deport all illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S. However, some Democratic Party members are still questioning whether the party should continue focusing on “traditional concerns” like abortion rights, LGBT issues and climate change.

Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett told the NYT that the party has “no coherent message,” adding that “everything that underlines” Trump “is white supremacy and hate.”

Social justice and climate change have not been top priorities for voters, with a majority in 2022 stating they didn’t believe systemic racism exists. In an October Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll conducted by Noble Predictive Insights, 59% supported a federal ban on sex-change procedures, including puberty blockers and gender reassignment surgeries for minors — despite most Democrats advocating for transgender individuals to have access to such procedures.

DHS Sec. Kristi Noem Vows to Rein in Mayors Enforcing ‘Sanctuary City’ Policies

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem said on Fox News that she’ll target sanctuary city mayors who defy federal immigration laws.

During an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle,” Noem was asked if the administration is prepared to impose consequences on non-compliant officials who say they’ll thwart federal authority.

“Nobody’s above the law. Of course we will. But that’s up to President Trump. President Trump gives us a direction. I don’t sit here and make up a decision on what I do. I follow the law,” Noem said.

“We treat everybody the same in this country now that we have President Trump in the White House, and he’s going to give us direction on how we’re going to go after these individuals.”

Noem talked about transparency and said it’s important to tell people how their leaders — under the guise of local ordinances — protect wrongdoers.

“The reality is, these sanctuary cities, their laws have caused us problems. They are limiting some of our tools that we want in our toolbox, but we’re going to continue to go in and use our operations and then show in other cities how it’s working and tell our story to the American people,” Noem said. “The people in their community need to hear how their mayors, their elected officials, are protecting the criminals.”

The Senate confirmed Noem as DHS secretary last week. She’s responsible for implementing President Donald Trump’s executive orders on border security and immigration. She’s also tasked with directing operations at Customs and Border Protection, the Secret Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and other agencies.

The Trump administration has been working to deport illegal immigrants as they scaled back deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans that President Joe Biden had extended just days before leaving office. In a DHS memo obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, the DHS revoked an 18-month extension of Temporary Protected Status granted to approximately 600,000 Venezuelan nationals earlier in January.
